Roy Keane asked twice by Ian Wright if he would take Man Utd interim manager role, his final four-word reaction says it all

Roy Keane dropped a telling response after Ian Wright asked him if he would become the Manchester United interim manager should the opportunity arise.

Erik ten Hag is currently under immense pressure and the Manchester United manager’s future has been cast in speculation amid his side’s poor run of form.

United have had a poor start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign under Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils only managing two wins in seven matches so far.

Ten Hag’s men are 14th in the Premier League table and managed to pick up a point from the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa ahead of the October international break.

The 54-year-old has been fiercely criticised for the Red Devils’ poor run of results, with Ten Hag’s side managing only eight points from a possible 21 points on offer.

Wright asks Keane about Man Utd role

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Arsenal legend Ian Wright didn’t pass up the opportunity to ask Roy Keane about a sensational return to Old Trafford.

However, Keane on the first time of questioning dismissed the idea that Manchester United would want him as their interim manager if Erik ten Hag is sacked.

“They’re not gonna be asking me,” he said on The Overlap.

“They just wouldn’t. They just wouldn’t.”

Keane went on to admit that the current scenes at United look “chaotic” and argued that Ten Hag doesn’t have the power at Old Trafford that an outsider might think.

“I’m not saying he’s not a good manager or he hasn’t got good coaching staff, but in the summer, they changed all the coaching staff,” he said.

“So, you’re on about a manager having a bit of power and control of the football club I’ll bet you Ten Hag’s got none of that!

“So, players will look at the manager and go, ‘Well, all your staff went in the summer. I didn’t see you fighting for any of them. You’re bringing more staff in.’ I just think it looks chaotic, doesn’t it?”

Wright pushes Keane on Man Utd question

United legend Keane has been out of the managerial dugout since his ill-fated spell with Ipswich Town ended in 2011 with his sacking.

Following his run with Ipswich Town, the 53-year-old Irishman later became assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Keane has previously flirted with the idea of returning to management, but the Irish hardman has not firmly committed to becoming a manager again.

Wright wasn’t sold on Keane’s initial response to the United question and pushed the Sky Sports pundit about the idea of becoming interim manager at Old Trafford.

When asked by the Arsenal legend for a definitive answer, Keane simply responded: “I’m not leaving you, Wrighty.”
