Manchester United icon Roy Keane and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher both saw eye to eye over one player that the Red Devils did not land in the summer.

The Red Devils wrapped up their extensive summer spending spree on deadline day with the signing of Senne Lammens from Belgian Pro League outfit Royal Antwerp.

Ruben Amorim has also seen significant reinforcements to his attacking options at the club with the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Manchester United have invested for the long term at Old Trafford as well and the Red Devils welcomed the signing of 18-year-old Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon.

United manager Ruben Amorim received a major boost with the acquisition of Senne Lammens on Monday amid the struggling forms of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

However, the 40-year-old Portuguese coach was unable to bring a new midfielder to Old Trafford, with Amorim in desperate need of another defensive midfield option.

Man Utd legend Roy Keane and Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher both shared the same reaction to Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal summer signing Viktor Gyokeres was subject to Manchester United’s transfer interest after the arrival of Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP last November.

Amorim had worked closely with Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting CP and the 27-year-old Swedish striker had been in deadly form during his time at the Primeira Liga outfit.

Despite United being linked with Gyokeres in the summer, Arsenal were the favourites to land the Sweden international and signed him from Sporting CP.

Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher appeared in a Sky Sports video together and the United legend and Liverpool hero both rated the ‘biggest moves’ of the summer.

The two Sky Sports pundits both admitted that Gyokeres has been a “hit” at Arsenal so far, with former United captain Keane pointing to the striker’s strong start.

“It’s been a hit so far. Two goals, two games. Been a hit so far,” Keane said.

Carragher added: “It’s been a hit so far. Yeah.”

Former Man Utd target Viktor Gyokeres is considered the missing puzzle piece for Arsenal in the Premier League title race

The Red Devils’ failure to land Gyokeres ahead of Arsenal led to the club pursuing other options, with United finally settling on striker Benjamin Sesko in August.

Arsenal fell short of Liverpool in the Premier League title race in the 2024-25 campaign and the Gunners had been linked with Benjamin Sesko in the summer.

However, United’s Premier League rivals chose to splash out on former Sporting CP striker Gyokeres, who was finally signed in a deal worth up to £64m in July.

Former United target Gyokeres has already opened his goalscoring account in the 2025-26 season, with the Arsenal striker netting twice in three matches so far.
