It won’t be long until Andreas Pereira is no longer a Manchester United player.
Multiple reports over the past 24 hours have claimed Flamengo are pushing hard to sign Pereira on a permanent basis. TNT Sports Brazil reported the news.
The Athletic report talks are underway with the Brazilian club, while Fabrizio Romano claims talks are in the ‘final stages’.
United will receive around £8.8 million and a 25 per cent sell on clause.
The end of a long journey
Pereira came through United’s youth system after being signed as a youngster from PSV Eindhoven.
He was a standout player at academy level and quickly caught the eye of United fans. After making his debut under Louis van Gaal, he was sent out on loan by Jose Mourinho to Granada and then Valencia.
Pereira’s best moments over the years largely came in pre-season, but he did start in the famous win away at PSG.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him a run of games at the start of the 2019/20 season, in which he failed to seize his opportunity.
After a loan spell at Lazio, Pereira then left to sign with Flamengo in Brazil this summer, where he is hoping to catch the eye and earn a call-up into the World Cup squad.
Pereira has scored five goals on loan for Flamengo so far, and despite an extra-time error which saw him give away the ball for the winner in their Copa Libertadores final defeat, they are keen to sign him.
The midfielder’s contract runs out in 2023 and at the age of 26, it is simply time to move on. He wants to stay at Flamengo, and they want him, and to get around £9 million is pretty good business at this point.
