The first step in Manchester United’s reported pursuit of James Maddison might have just been taken.
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted he will struggle to hold Maddison back from a move to United.
Speaking at his press conference, he told The Mail: “Whenever a player gets an opportunity to go to a club like that, to experience that type of pressure, that expectation – and of course there’ll be a financial side to it as well, let’s be real – that as a package in a short career is maybe something that is too hard to turn down.
“Let’s be real – that as a package in a short career is maybe something that is too hard to turn down. I understand it, I get it.”

All systems go?
Maddison is a class act, and proved it against Manchester United at the weekend with an assured display in the clash at Old Trafford.
Earlier this month Maddison was backed to move to United by former Red Devils defender Viv Anderson.
The Mirror reported that United are considering a £80 million move for Maddison in January.
It’s expensive, but it could be shrewd to get the deal done mid-season, with United clearly light in quality at the attacking midfield position.
It also makes sense to move before Maddison potentially lights up Euro 2020 with England, and competition for his signature grows.
Brendan Rodgers did not hold Harry Maguire back from joining United, and it appears he is unlikely to cause issues with Maddison either.
It’s a little strange, considering the progress Leicester are making, that they are happy to settle for being a selling club, but it’s good news for United.
With months to prepare, perhaps Ed Woodward can get this deal done as soon as the transfer window opens. We are being too optimistic, we know…
