Rio Ferdinand dropped his telling reaction to Ruben Amorim’s first training session at the Carrington complex after his arrival as the Manchester United manager.

Manchester United triggered the £9.25m release clause in Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP contract earlier this month and the 39-year-old agreed to sign for the Red Devils.

Amorim inked a deal until June 2027 and the former Sporting CP manager arrived at Old Trafford at the start of the November international break.

United landed Amorim as their new head coach after former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag was sacked by the Premier League club in late October.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed interim United manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal and the Dutchman won three matches and picked up one draw.

The 48-year-old United legend, who was assistant manager under Ten Hag, left Old Trafford after Amorim didn’t retain Ruud van Nistelrooy as part of his coaching staff.

Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United match in charge will be after the November international break, with the Red Devils facing Ipswich Town on Sunday.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are only four points behind the top four after 11 league matches played this season.

Following Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford last week, the Portuguese took charge of his first United training session on Monday at the Carrington training complex.

Rio Ferdinand took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and wasted no time reacting to a brief compilation of United training under Amorim.

Reposting the footage, the United legend wrote: “Oh s**t… let’s gooooooo [sic]!”

Amorim sets clear mission for Man Utd

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Amorim insisted that the “most important thing” for him to establish at United is “identity.”

The Portuguese manager, who was praised for his transformative impact at Sporting CP, insisted there will be a “focus” on their “model” for how they will play in matches.

“We know that we need time, but we have to win time,” Amorim said.

“To win time is to win games. But the most important thing for me is identity. So, since day one we will start with our identity.

“Of course, we are going to prepare the games, but we will focus a lot in our game model. How to play, how to press, these small things, small details.

“You cannot go 100 per cent on every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So, if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity.”
