Rio Ferdinand has now said that he does have “worries” about Manchester United signing one replacement target for struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with Inter Milan this summer and the 22-year-old Danish forward has been on the transfer radar of both AC Milan and Roma.
The Denmark international signed off his second full season at Old Trafford and Hojlund failed to consistently impress in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Hojlund only found the back of the net 10 times for United in 52 matches across all competitions last season, with the Red Devils striker also picking up four assists.
The Denmark international has suggested that he plans to stay at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim, despite United being linked with signing a new striker this summer.
Hojlund has also been taking part in United’s pre-season tour of Europe and the United States this summer amid the fierce transfer interest from clubs in the Serie A.

Rio Ferdinand highlights a major comparison between Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund and RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand touched on the struggles of Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford since the Manchester United striker’s arrival.
The 46-year-old United legend said that Hojlund has had “inexperience around him” when it comes to playing alongside the likes of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.
However, Ferdinand believes that the aforementioned situation would not apply to RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who has been linked with United this summer.
The former TNT Sports pundit suggested that United target Benjamin Sesko would benefit from the support of Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
“The only difference is that Rasmus came in and had inexperience around him in terms of [Alejandro] Garnacho [on] one side and Amad [Diallo] [on] the other, for instance, most of the time,” Ferdinand said.
“If Sesko comes in, he’s got two players that have played Premier League, scored goals in the Premier League and backed up by Bruno [Fernandes], so I think it’s a different dynamic that he comes into.
“But the uncertainty worries me a little bit. Can he adapt to this league?”
Rio Ferdinand makes an eye-opening Liverpool claim amid Man Utd’s pursuit of RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko was heavily linked with Arsenal this summer before the Gunners finally landed former United target Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last week.
The 22-year-old Slovenian attacker is under contract until 2029 and it is believed that RB Leipzig want a fee in the region of £69m to £78m for Sesko this summer.
Speaking on United’s pursuit of a new striking option amid being linked with Sesko, Ferdinand continued: “I wanted a striker with experience so he wouldn’t be my first-choice, obviously, even now.
“But if Manchester United buy him and Newcastle go and get a number nine, does that mean [Alexander] Isak stays at Newcastle and Liverpool don’t get Isak?
“Liverpool’s transfer window has been nothing short of exceptional so far.”
United are currently in the United States for their pre-season tour this summer and the Red Devils return to action on Thursday against Bournemouth in Chicago.
