Rio Ferdinand praises two Man Utd players who are getting no attention after Liverpool win, one was ‘invaluable’

Manchester United have finally won back to back games under Ruben Amorim and it came against Liverpool at Anfield.

There isn’t a single game Manchester United would have wanted to win this season more than away from home to Liverpool, which has been an unhappy hunting ground in recent years.

United beat Liverpool 2-1 on the day, securing a win at Anfield for the first time in almost a decade, when Wayne Rooney scored a 2016 winner under Louis van Gaal.

In the victory, United had several standout performers, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire both excellent with their goals.

However, United had some unsung players who were top class for Ruben Amorim.

Rio Ferdinand names two top performers vs Liverpool

In a man of the match vote by fans, Maguire was picked as United’s man of the match and deservingly so as the England international was pivotal for the Red Devils.

However, Rio Ferdinand has decided to heap praise onto some of the more unsung heroes of the potentially season defining win.

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube, the legendary defender picked out two players who deserved praise.

“Mason Mount I think deserves a shout I think on and off the ball. His intensity, his efficiency with the ball as well at times in the first half especially was great.

“And two other players I think it’s obvious Harry Maguire deserves all the plaudits and credit he is going to get. But Casemiro as well, he was another one on the scrappy. People rubbing their hands and going, I told you so. It’s a waste of money, etc.

“Yeah, he might have not lived up to what we he was doing at Real Madrid. And that’s time, it will always take that away from you when you get older, but he was outstanding in that first half yesterday. And I think his positional sense, his awareness in that midfield area yesterday in a big game like that was invaluable.”

This adds to Ferdinand predicting that Matheus Cunha will soon become unplayable and in a way, the amount of players up for praise is a big compliment to Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has achieved something that will see Manchester United finally improve

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, any good Manchester United have had has come thanks to the performances of one or two standout performers.

This was David de Gea under Louis van Gaal and Bruno Fernandes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag, but Amorim has made something more sustainable.

The performance against Liverpool saw eight or nine players perform to an excellent standard, which makes the victory a team effort and more like what Sir Alex built.

If Amorim has some players struggling, others will step up, but the fact so many have been lauded after the win just goes to show that United finally have a squad of players good enough, not just one or two.

This should be a huge indication that United are on the way back to the top.
