Rio Ferdinand has highlighted one all-important difference between Manchester United and Liverpool after the Reds were crowned Premier League champions.

Liverpool comfortably beat Arsenal in the Premier League title race in the 2024-25 campaign and dethroned Manchester City’s dominance over English football.

City fell well short of their Premier League title defence this season and Pep Guardiola’s men are fourth in the table and are 21 points behind Liverpool.

Liverpool now have a 15-point lead over second-place Arsenal with only four Premier League matches remaining in the current season.

The Reds ensured their place as Premier League champions under Arne Slot after Liverpool inflicted a thumping 5-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool’s latest Premier League trophy win has pulled the Red Devils level with Manchester United for most top-flight league titles at 20 apiece.

United, on the other hand, languish in 14th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are on course for their worst finish since the league’s inception.

Rio Ferdinand points out one major difference between Man Utd and Liverpool after the Reds’ Premier League title win

Rio Ferdinand was part of the last Manchester United team to lift the Premier League trophy under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2012-13 campaign.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who is regarded as one of the best managers of all time, bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013 and led United to all 13 of their Premier League titles.

United have struggled in the aftermath of the 83-year-old legendary Scotsman’s departure from the Red Devils and the club have not won a league title since 2013.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand insisted that Liverpool are still not the biggest club in the world ahead of United, despite the Reds’ recent success.

“They’re [Liverpool] the most successful club in the land, but they’re not the biggest club,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“It’s a fact. You go anywhere in the world, there are more Man United fans than there are Liverpool fans.

“But that will change if they remain successful and Man United don’t. There will be a swing of new fans who adopt successful teams.

“If Liverpool become that over the next 10 years, then they have a chance to balance that up, in terms of the biggest club in the world right now.

“But right now, it’s a landslide win for Man United in terms of being the biggest in the world.”

Peter Crouch appeared on Ferdinand’s YouTube channel and he asked the 46-year-old United legend about the difference in class between United and Liverpool now.

Responding to Peter Crouch, TNT Sports pundit Ferdinand said: “It fries my head.

“I’ve got to be honest, when I was at Man United, we were miles ahead, won leagues, etcetera.

“We clawed it back and then were ahead. I was part of that and it felt great. And now I’m just sitting and watching it before my eyes, just all sliding away.

“Liverpool have become more successful in the time since I retired. You’ve just got to accept it.”

United will resume their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening with their crucial first-leg semi-final clash against La Liga outfit Athletic Club in Bilbao.
