Rio Ferdinand believes ‘stuff went on behind the scenes’ leading to Manchester United player’s exit

Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho’s feud and the Englishman’s impending move to Borussia Dortmund.

Jadon Sancho has featured just three times for Manchester United this season during the opening three games of the Premier League campaign and has been ostracised from the first team under Erik ten Hag.

The pair had a falling out after United’s 3-1 defeat to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal back in September and the former Borussia Dortmund winger has not been seen for the Red Devils since then and now looks set to leave the club.

Sancho looks set to rejoin his former side Dortmund as a loan deal looks to be close and the German giants’ CEO Hanz Joachim Watzke has said they are keen on bringing the 23-year-old back to the Bundesliga.

Speaking on his podcast Vibe with Five, the former United defender Rio Ferdinand gave his verdict on the feud that started it all and the fallout between the pair that has seemingly had a dampener on the current season.

“The manager might be sitting there, if you look at it from his side, I’ve exhausted every single element of my managerial skills and experience to try and get this player to play,” he said.

“And I can’t get it out of him. So he’s manufactured a way in which he’s got him to a point in which he’s going to be going on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

“Yes, there’s been public showings of discontent from the manager. But I just feel that there’s been stuff that’s gone on behind the scenes.”

Feud set to end

It has been one of the stories of the season but it looks like Sancho’s time in Manchester is coming to an end which would bring to an end the disagreements between the pair.

Sancho has not proven his worth for the Red Devils as the £73 million fee that United paid Dortmund for him back in the summer of 2021 has not been a fruitful investment.

So much so that talkSport’s Simon Jordan believes that United should count themselves lucky to get £5 million back for the 23-year-old.

It has truly been a disastrous deal for all parties, Sancho has to move on to try and rescue his career and the Red Devils will hope they can rescue a fee for the Englishman.
