Rio Ferdinand has made his stance clear on whether one Manchester United star will make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 next summer in Germany.

Several United players are expected to be called up to represent their respective countries at Euro 2024, including Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.

Southgate’s men punched their ticket to Euro 2024 after finishing top of Group C ahead of defending European champions Italy in the qualifying stage.

The England manager learned earlier this month that the Three Lions would be placed in Group C alongside Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia in the tournament.

United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane have ruled out Southgate’s side winning Euro 2024, while Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher disagreed with both of them.

Keane, Carragher and Wright have also all agreed on one outcome they expect from Southgate leading England through their Euro 2024 campaign.

Will Southgate call up Marcus Rashford for England?

Marcus Rashford’s England future remains uncertain after his poor run of form this season, with the United star even being dropped by Erik ten Hag in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old United forward lost his place in the 2-1 win over Chelsea and 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, with Rashford coming off the bench in both matches.

Rashford enjoyed a rich vein of form for both club and country last season and was in fine goalscoring form for England at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Three Lions international made five appearances under Southgate at last year’s World Cup tournament and scored three times for England during the campaign.

Rashford only started two World Cup matches in Qatar before eventual finalists France knocked England out of the competition in the quarter-finals.

Ferdinand on whether Rashford will make England squad

Despite his poor run of form for United, Rashford could still turn things around before Southgate reveals his final England squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

Southgate likes the United star and could still include Rashford in his squad, with the England boss previously supporting Harry Maguire during his struggles.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Ferdinand was asked if Rashford would make the England squad for the UEFA tournament in Germany based on his current form.

“Current form? It would be very difficult to say… I think he probably still goes in the squad because of what he’s probably done in the past, maybe, and that’s the way that Gareth is, but on current form, he definitely doesn’t start,” he said (via Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE).

“I don’t think Marcus Rashford would sit here and say that on current form that he should start.”
