Marcus Rashford came off the bench for England against Croatia, having a huge impact as he nabbed the goal that sealed victory.

It might be coming home, as England’s 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday night was arguably the best performance of the tournament to date.

In this, Marcus Rashford was flying the Manchester United flag with Kobbie Mainoo left on the bench by Thomas Tuchel, who was forced into withdrawing Declan Rice after an injury concern.

Rashford was on the scoresheet for England, finishing off an incisive counterattack assisted by Bukayo Saka. It was an important goal for Rashford.

Marcus Rashford enters the England history books

Rashford’s goal against Croatia was England’s fourth and coincidentally his fourth in the World Cup, over his three involvements in the competition.

After three in Qatar, Rashford’s one in Dallas means that he has now matched Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton at four goals a World Cup for England, also tying Michael Owen.

To highlight how impressive this is, only Geoff Hurst (5), Harry Kane (10), and Gary Lineker (10) have scored more for the Three Lions on the world stage.

This means, with potentially six games left to play, Rashford is one goal from levelling Hurst and two from moving into standalone second.

If he couples a few more goals with a World Cup trophy, he could be undeniably an English legend.

Rashford sits on 19 goals for England all-time, and he will be very eager to add some more with Panama and Ghana to play, followed by a potentially favourable round of 32 draw.

Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!

Marcus Rashford is in excellent form for his Manchester United return

While his return once looked impossible, Rashford is currently set to return to United this summer after Barcelona chose to sign Anthony Gordon instead for some inconceivable reason.

This means that Rashford’s brilliance for England can be separated by United supporters, because it could see him return to pre-season in hot form and feeling like he has a point to prove.

United will benefit from this, either in that Rashford will be an excellent addition to Michael Carrick’s current attacking set-up as a left-winger.

Or he will play himself into a transfer somewhere else and now likely for more than £26m thanks to his form for Barcelona and now England.

Whatever Rashford ends up doing, it is excellent to see him in form and happy; hopefully, he will bring it to United next season.
