Three former Manchester United coaches will be competing at the World Cup this summer.
Manchester United will have a strong representation at the 2026 World Cup, spread across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Kobbie Mainoo and Senne Lammens are among the United first-team players competing at their first-ever World Cup, but there was no room for Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
On top of that, three former United coaches will be involved in the World Cup. Two are working as head coaches and one as an assistant.

Rene Meulensteen – Iraq assistant manager
Regarded as one of the most influential coaching minds in the late Sir Alex Ferguson era, Rene Meulensteen is a tactical specialist.
The summer is shaping up to be a busy one for Meulensteen as assistant manager of the Iraq national team.
Meulensteen is working alongside Graham Arnold after the pair previously joined forces with Australia.
Iraq will be making their first World Cup appearance since 1986.
Ralf Rangnick – Austria head coach
Austria will be led by former United interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Since taking over the Austria national team in May 2022, Rangnick has guided the team to the World Cup.
The aim for Rangnick’s Austria side will be to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

Carlos Queiroz – Ghana head coach
Many view Carlos Queiroz as the most influential assistant coach of the Ferguson era, even though he wasn’t too popular with Roy Keane.
Queiroz took the Ghana job in April ahead of the tournament, after previously managing the likes of Iran, Egypt, Colombia, Qatar, and Portugal.
As a defensive-minded coach, Ghana are expected to be organised at the back.
