Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund enjoyed his best game for Napoli this weekend with a brace against Juventus.

Rasmus Hojlund’s two goals against Juventus means he has now matched his league goal tally from 2024/25 when he was playing for Manchester United.

Despite Hojlund wanting to stay at United and fight for his spot, he was pushed towards the exit by Ineos.

The £38m buy option in Hojlund’s contract becomes obligatory if Napoli qualify for the Champions League, and their latest win over Juventus means they sit at the top of the Serie A table.

Rasmus Hojlund compared to Edinson Cavani for Napoli double

After the full-time whistle at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Italian media raved about Hojlund for his performance on the big stage.

Hojlund ended his goal drought in fashion and journalist Toni Lavarone drew an interesting comparison to former United star Edinson Cavani.

Lavarone wrote: “A brace of remarkable impact, a true predator in the penalty area.

“Even more commendable than the goals were his numerous runs backwards to help his teammates, in true Cavani style.”

Cavani became a cult hero at United during his two-year spell at Old Trafford – something Hojlund wasn’t able to achieve in his own time at the club.

The 38-year-old forward spent two years with Napoli between 2011 and 2013, but was unable to fire them to a Serie A title.

Edinson Cavani was a huge success for Man United

United’s poor recruitment in previous seasons has often left managers chasing short-term transfer wins, especially when it comes to strikers.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo all arrived in the twilight years of their career and there was mixed success with those signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sanctioned the signing of Cavani in 2020, and he will have no regrets about bringing the Uruguayan striker to Manchester.

Cavani became a hero at United not only for his goals, but his incredible work rate and team spirit. He scored 19 goals in 59 games for the Red Devils, and was never a divisive figure behind the scenes despite being pushed out of the starting line-up by Cristiano Ronaldo.
