Young Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has been having an impressive loan spell with Bristol City in the Championship this season.

Manchester United have a long list of loanees this season, with a handful emerging as standouts at their temporary teams.

Ruben Amorim will be particularly impressed by Harry Amass, who is playing for the team at the bottom of the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday.

Amass has been top class for Wednesday, while Radek Vitek has also been catching the eye in the same league, shining for Bristol City as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

Vitek’s performances have made him a favourite at Bristol City already, with a chant dedicated to him, and the Czech shot stopper has now discussed his loan.

Vitek was excellent for BW Linz last season; however, Bristol City is a clear step up for the 6ft 6in goalkeeper.

How would you rate Manchester United’s season after 11 Premier League games?

Now, speaking with Sky Sports this week, Vitek has revealed that Ruben Amorim wanted him to head on loan in order to get more game time at a higher level, and Bristol City was the perfect choice.

“It’s true, it came a little bit out of nowhere,” Vitek said. “I knew I was going to go on loan this season because I had an agreement with the coach, it was the best thing to do, and get more experience at a higher level than last year.

“It was a no-brainer because to play in the Championship for a club such as Bristol City for me was really attractive.

“I said yes straight away after I spoke with Gerhard Struber.”

Continuing in this interview, Vitek then explained that he is thrilled by the attention Manchester United has been paying to his performances for Bristol City.

“I’m taking it step-by-step; we’ll see next summer what’s best for me,” Vitek admitted when asked what the future holds for him. “I speak on a regular basis with my goalkeeper coach from Manchester United, who has come here to watch my games, and I have a good connection with them.

“I know they’re watching me, and I really appreciate that I’m not just the guy who is being forgotten or anything.

“Obviously, long term, I would love to play for Manchester United one day, but also I’m realistic and I know that my pathway can lead somewhere different as well.”

Manchester United are considering Radek Vitek as Senne Lammens competition

Vitek is a talent that United fans are very excited by and for good reason, with his performances ranking quite clearly among the best in the Championship.

In 2026, there are currently plans to sign a new number two goalkeeper; however, United in Focus understands that Vitek is considered an option by United for this role, considering how excellent he has been this season.

What Paul Scholes said about Senne Lammens before he made his Man Utd debut

“What’s the price? 20 million Euros, that tells me he’s not a top goalkeeper.”

Vitek and Lammens are separated by one year, which could give United two goalkeepers under 24, with potential to be really good Premier League shot stoppers, competing for the starting berth, and also options for different competitions.

Lammens has surprised everyone with how quickly he was able to settle in as the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United, and Vitek could do the same next summer if he becomes number two.
