Rio Ferdinand has now opened up on what Diogo Dalot told him about former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim in a heart-to-heart sitdown chat.
Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United head coach in January after his splintered relationship with the Ineos regime emerged at Old Trafford.
Should Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim earlier this season?
Could we really have been title contenders?
The 41-year-old former United manager had arrived in England in 2024 after leaving his native homeland of Portugal and his head coach role at Sporting CP.
Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag during the 2024-25 campaign and oversaw a turbulent run with United, with the Red Devils finishing 15th in the table.
The ex-Sporting CP boss also fell short of major silverware last season, with Tottenham beating Man Utd 1-0 in the 2025 Europa League final in Bilbao.

Rio Ferdinand revealed on his podcast that he had linked up with Diogo Dalot for a sitdown interview, which has not been released at the time of writing.
The 47-year-old United legend admitted that he was deeply surprised by how Red Devils right-back Dalot spoke about former Sporting CP manager Amorim.

“And quite surprisingly at times, he told us why that period under Amorim was really important for the way the group is now. So, I think […].”

Ferdinand admitted that he was caught by surprise by how Dalot touched on his time under Amorim and also praised the 26-year-old player for his candid approach.
“Watch the interview, but it’s really like, I mean, when he said it to me, I was like, ‘Whoa,’” he continued.
“But then he explained it and it was really kind of like, I can see where he’s coming from.
“And I think he’s, it was a really open and honest conversation, man. And we had a laugh and you could just see how much actually the… not only the club, but being in Manchester, the city, is to him now as an individual.
“It’s really nice to see that: the context of what the city actually means to him. Now, he’s the second [active] longest-serving player [right now], by the way.”
Dalot had been a key wing-back choice for Amorim and had played on both flanks in the former Man Utd manager’s polarising tactical system at the club.
