Erik ten Hag was under pressure for months before he was finally sacked as Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman only narrowly avoided being sacked in the summer, with Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph ultimately saving his job.
It was no secret that Ineos were underwhelmed by United’s Premier League form under Erik ten Hag but his 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Wembley handed him a lifeline.
Ten Hag was handed a one-year contract extension despite Ineos holding talks with several manager candidates, but he was unable to turn things around. Ten Hag was sacked on Monday following a terrible start to the season.
Shortly after his sacking, United players sent goodbye messages to Ten Hag, and he has also received a lot of sympathy from his peers in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou says Erik ten Hag sack was ‘inevitable’
Liverpool manager, and fellow Dutchman, Arne Slot expects Ten Hag at a big club when he chooses to return to management.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola feels “so sorry” for Ten Hag and hailed his professional behaviour during his time at Old Trafford.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who beat Ten Hag’s United 3-0 earlier this season, has given his verdict on Ten Hag’s dismissal, and the Spurs manager was also very sympathetic.
As per Sky Sports, Postecoglou told the media: “Not really shocked. I guess disappointing as it was almost inevitable with the scrutiny he had.
“He was there for two and a bit years and in those two years he won a trophy in each year. I think they finished third in his first year.
“I don’t know if he was here [at Tottenham] with that record would he have lost his job? Would he be under the same scrutiny? I don’t know.
“Because everyone tells me all I have to do is win a trophy, but I have the feeling it would be the same.”
Man United were going backwards under Erik ten Hag
It was incredibly sad that things didn’t work out under Ten Hag despite signs of promise earlier in his spell.
His trophy record was impressive and his iconic win at Wembley against City will go down in the history books, but ultimately United were making no progress in the Premier League.

Additionally, Ten Hag’s record in Europe was nothing short of shocking. The Red Devils currently sit 21st in the Europa League table and 14th in the Premier League.
Qualifying for the Champions League was always the aim this season but Ten Hag was falling drastically short. Change was needed and Ineos acted quickly.
All attention now turns to his replacement, and Ruben Amorim is on his way to England shortly.
