It had been feared that Anthony Martial would not play again for Manchester United this season.
But French outlet L’Equipe report that his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.
They say he’s already back training with United after a knee injury picked up on international duty last month.
And while he doesn’t look like he will back for this week’s games against Roma and Aston Villa, he might be available for next Wednesday’s clash with Leicester.
The report claims that Martial will have enough time to stake his claim for France’s Euro 2020 squad.
But most importantly for United fans, he’ll be available for the end of a campaign which should include the Europa League final in Gdansk.
Second place should be sealed with relative ease, which will allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to reintroduce Martial gradually.
That showpiece final against either Arsenal or Villarreal should be a real target for Martial in terms of being fully match fit and ready to help try and win the club’s first trophy since 2017.
Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood have been electric in Martial’s absence, stepping up to the plate at the business end of the season.
That means the Frenchman knows he has to be on top of his game to get back into this United side.
It seems likely he’ll be little more than a bench option between now and the end of the campaign unless there are more forward injuries.
But he’ll be useful to have off the bench if United are chasing a game and it’s a boost for Solskjaer that he’ll have him to call upon, when the initial prognosis suggested otherwise.
