It only seems a matter of time before Ruben Amorim is announced as the new Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils have moved extremely quickly following Erik ten Hag being sacked on Monday morning, with the new-look hierarchy at Old Trafford wasting no time sourcing his replacement.

The 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday afternoon was the final straw and United chiefs unanimously agreed to sack Ten Hag after the awful start to the season.

They quickly identified four manager candidates with the same trait but current Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim stood out above the rest.

Amorim verbally agreed to join United less than 24 hours after Ten Hag was dismissed, and reports suggest that the deal could be made official very soon.

Manchester United close in on Ruben Amorim appointment

There has been some confusion around Amorim’s release clause at Sporting with multiple sources naming different fees, but it is generally understood to be around €10million (£8.3million).

The good news is – United are prepared to pay it and want to appoint Amorim quickly, and fresh reports from Portugal suggest it is now extremely close to being done.

Portuguese outlet Record claim Amorim is now just “one step away” from becoming United manager with United and Sporting finalising the terms to the deal.

They add that Sporting have already moved on to identifying Amorim’s replacement with Joao Pereira, the current coach of Sporting B, set to take charge of the club.

Fabrizio Romano has added that Amorim has given the “green light” for his move to United to go ahead.

What Man United fans can expect from Ruben Amorim

At only 39 years old, United are about to appoint one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe, but Amorim still brings plenty of experience with him to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese boss led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years and was linked with a move away from Portugal last season.

Amorim rejected the Liverpool job over the summer and had been rumoured as Manchester City’s ideal replacement for Pep Guardiola, but he is now set to take charge at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s managerial idol will teach United fans alot about their new boss, who is set to bring a new system and style of play to Manchester when he is appointed.
