Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo pictured training ahead of Brentford trip
Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo have returned to training to give Manchester United a huge injury boost ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Brentford.
Ronaldo missed the Reds’ back-to-back games against Aston Villa with a hip problem, but the 36-year-old will be hoping to return for the clash against the Bees.
Paul Pogba hasn’t played since sustaining a thigh injury whilst being on international duty with France in November. The Frenchman last played when he was brought off against Atalanta.
It seems the 28-year-old is ahead of schedule following an update from interim boss Ralf Rangnick earlier this month.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Rangnick said: “As far as I know, I was told a week ago, it would be a minimum of at least another four or five weeks before he is fit for training again. I hope he will be back as soon as possible.
“Right now, he’s not been part of the training group and, even if he was back whenever, two, three or four weeks, it will take some time.
“It’s one thing to be training fit but, on the other hand, he needs to be fit for the match and competition in either the Premier League or the Champions League and this will still take some time.”
With United’s number six only just returning to training he’s highly unlikely to feature against Brentford or West Ham on Saturday.
But with the Premier League then embarking on a winter break, the World Cup winner could return for the FA Cup fourth round clash against Middlesbrough.
Unlike Pogba, Ronaldo will be targeting a return to Rangnick’s starting line-up against Thomas Frank’s side at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Marcus Rashford, who also missed Saturday’s draw at Villa Park, returned to training as well to give Rangnick a triple boost.
United managed to beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup without the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, but we surrendered a 2-0 lead at Villa Park on Saturday, which would have no doubt irked the Portuguese international, following his calls for the squad to improve their mentality.
In the traditional winning team posts from the United players, Cristiano Ronaldo was pictured alongside Pogba, Tom Heaton, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Marcus Rashford and Donny van de Beek, following today’s session.
