When Michael Carrick was first appointed as interim head coach back in January, Manchester United fans weren’t sure what to expect.

Ineos decided to hire Michael Carrick over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as an interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

When Ruben Amorim was sacked, United were sixth in the table and still in contention for Champions League football.

Under Carrick, United secured a third-place finish and, at one point, there was even talk of a title charge. He ended the season with 12 wins in 17 games, losing only twice.

Peter Schmeichel’s prediction on Michael Carrick

Back on January 25, after United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal in the Premier League, Peter Schmeichel made a bold prediction about Carrick’s time as head coach.

At the time, Carrick had just beaten Manchester City and Arsenal back-to-back in his first two games.

Speaking to ViaPlay, Schmeichel said: “I have them only losing two games.

“Because I don’t think that the sort of broader player material is good enough to go undefeated.

“If all this happens, it’s 71 points. 71 points will be more than enough to finish top four this season.”

Carrick picked up more points than any other Premier League manager since his appointment, and he was deservedly given the permanent job as a result.

Schmeichel has also piled praise on Benjamin Sesko, and given how accurate his Carrick prediction is, perhaps we should all be listening.
