Kasper Schmeichel has retired from football, leaving behind a remarkable Old Trafford record that his father and Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel couldn’t match.
Although Peter Schmeichel disappointed Manchester United fans when he signed for Manchester City in 2002, the ‘Great Dane’ will forever be remembered among the best goalkeepers to have played for the club.
Schmeichel won 11 major trophies during his time at Old Trafford, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 1999.
Kasper Schmeichel also enjoyed a brilliant career as a goalkeeper, without reaching the heights of his father, as he never played for United.

Kasper Schmeichel retires with Old Trafford feat never achieved by Peter Schmeichel
Celtic and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has announced his retirement after being forced to hang up the gloves due to a serious shoulder injury.
The 39-year-old, who won the Premier League with Leicester City in 2016, hasn’t been able to play for Celtic since February.
“When my contract with Celtic expires in June, my contract as an active footballer stops,” Schmeichel said in an interview with TV2, as quoted by RTE.
“It is a decision that has been made for me, after consulting with several surgeons and experts in my field, who tell me that I should not expect the opportunity to return and play top football.
“So after a lot of consideration, after trying to get as many opinions as possible, after getting so many experts’ evaluation, I think this is the right time now.
“We are also celebrating our 10th anniversary of winning the championship with Leicester (at an event this weekend), so I think this is the right time now to announce that I have played my last professional football match.”
However, Schmeichel retires having done something at Old Trafford in the Premier League that his father was unable to. Save a penalty.
Despite his legendary career at United, Peter Schmeichel never saved a Premier League penalty at Old Trafford. He conceded three.
Meanwhile, Kasper Schmeichel was responsible for one penalty save in the Premier League at Old Trafford, to deny Romelu Lukaku in August 2017.
