Pedro Porro, who spent two and a half seasons playing under Ruben Amorim, has since waxed lyrical about his former boss.

The now Tottenham defender was one of Amorim’s first signings as Sporting manager, initially arriving on loan from Manchester City, before signing permanently in 2022.

Porro would transform into one of Europe’s most exciting fullbacks under the tutelage of Amorim, eventually bagging himself a big-money move to Spurs in January 2023.

Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford departure has since seen Amorim heavily linked with the vacant Man United job and Red Devils fans will no doubt be keen to hear what Porro has had to say about his former manager.

What did Pedro Porro say about Man United linked Ruben Amorim?

The current Sporting boss is no stranger to plaudits with the likes of Jose Mourinho recently praising Amorim, whilst, Cristiano Ronaldo once labeled Amorim a ‘poet’ during their time together in the Portugal national team.

Another player who has previously sung the praises of the 39-year-old is Tottenham man Porro.

Speaking to Expresso in April 2024, the Spanish full-back lauded his former boss.

“He is young, has a lot of ambition, a little bit like Ange Postecoglou here at Tottenham. He always wants more and that’s what puts him on the world’s lips and coveted by so many teams in Europe.

“He has a special way of working. He plays eye to eye against any opponent, which is also similar to what we do at Tottenham, there are several similarities. It is known and recognised how Sporting and Tottenham play. There is a clear identity, whether winning 5-0 or losing 5-0.”

Amorim and Ange Postecoglou comparison

Porro’s Amorim and Postecoglou comparison is a verdict that will particularly pique the interest of Man United fans.

Both managers bring an exciting brand of football, one that has not been seen at Old Trafford for some time.

Postecoglou’s gung-ho approach has gained criticism during his spell as Spurs boss but it has also clearly had its positives with the Aussie transforming Tottenham into one of Europe’s most exciting sides.

With that being said it is worth taking a closer at the stats to see how the two managers compare when it comes to analysing their teams.

The stats above show that both Amorim and Postecoglou put a big emphasis on retaining the ball and pinning their opposition into submission with possession.

Portugal’s top flight is a far cry away from the hustle and bustle of the Premier League but if Amorim can recreate those statistics at Old Trafford, Man United could be set for a period of success under the Portuguese coach.
