Michael Carrick has vindicated a feeling that Paul Scholes has held about Manchester United and Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes over his impact at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes has been widely recognised as one of the best Manchester United signings since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013.
The 31-year-old Man Utd captain has netted 106 times and registered 107 assists in 324 matches for the Red Devils since his stunning arrival from Sporting CP in 2020.
Fernandes has enjoyed a strong run of form under Michael Carrick in the second half of the season and the United midfielder has proven one of Paul Scholes’ feelings.

Man Utd icon Paul Scholes says Bruno Fernandes has always been a No 10 in his eyes over a central midfielder
Manchester United legend Michael Carrick wasted no time tapping into Bruno Fernandes’ skills as a deadly No 10 after his return to the Premier League club.
The 44-year-old United interim boss has sparked a resurgence in Fernandes, who has 11 Premier League assists in 14 matches under Carrick since January.
Fernandes had been dropped into a deep midfield role under Ruben Amorim earlier in the 2025-26 campaign and his influence was curtailed for the Red Devils.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Paul Scholes insisted that Fernandes is playing at his best when he is in the No 10 role over the central midfield for United.
“He’s a different level from anything United have got. Everything United do good is through him,” he said.
“Whether he’s a centre midfielder or the No 10. Like, I think he’s a No 10 all day long.
“As we talk about [Martin] Odegaard, Odegaard should be that type of player for Arsenal and he isn’t doing it.”

Paul Scholes talks up how important Bruno Fernandes has been for Man Utd since his transfer from Sporting CP
Fernandes has registered 19 assists in 32 Premier League matches and the Portugal star is only one assist away from tying the all-time record for a single season.
Scholes added that the Red Devils have been lacking another player who has been able to bring the same influence that Fernandes has on the pitch for United.
“I think United over the last couple of years have probably needed ‘two Brunos,’” he continued.
“One to be that midfield player to get them playing football and want to be the No 10 to do the rest of it. But that assist record is just ridiculous.”
Fernandes has featured in 34 matches for the Red Devils in all competitions and the former Sporting CP midfielder has netted eight times and picked up 20 assists.
