Paul Scholes believes that Manchester United will sanction the sale of one player from Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad if they receive the “right money” this summer.

Erik ten Hag has seen a major shake-up to his Manchester United squad with the arrival of several new signings this summer.

Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee arrived at United from Lille and Bologna respectively, while Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were signed from Bayern Munich.

United have also been heavily linked with a defensive midfielder, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte widely tipped to make a move to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s United first-team squad has received an overhaul with the departure of several players, including Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane.

Willy Kambwala was sold to Villarreal and Mason Greenwood was shipped off to Marseille, while former Ajax star Donny van de Beek was offloaded to Girona.

Other transfers this summer included Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to West Ham and Alvaro Fernandez completing a move to Benfica.

Scholes on Man Utd star’s future

Speaking on The Overlap, Paul Scholes believes that Manchester United could still offload another key first-team player before the window shuts on 30th August.

Scott McTominay is out of contract with United in 2025 and the Scotland international’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain this summer.

The 27-year-old United star was subject to transfer bids from Premier League side Fulham, with the Red Devils turning down the offers for McTominay.

McTominay has also attracted interest from clubs outside of England, with Serie A outfit Napoli heavily linked with a move for the United midfielder.

It is believed that United are holding out for a £30m asking price for McTominay, having previously rejected the price tag when West Ham made an offer in 2023.

Scholes admitted that he thinks United will see McTominay and the Red Devils are only holding out for the “right money” for the transfer.

“I think they will [sell McTominay],” he said. “If they get the right money, they will do.”

Ten Hag’s position on McTominay

Scott McTominay made a brief cameo in the Community Shield match against Manchester City, with the Scotland star converting a penalty in the shootout defeat.

The Scottish midfielder also came off the bench late in the second half of United’s 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham at Old Trafford last week.

Speaking after the Fulham match, Erik ten Hag made his feelings clear that he is happy with McTominay amid mounting speculation over the player’s future.

“I am so pleased with the performance of Scott McTominay,” he said at his press conference.

“I am so pleased to have him in my squad, the type of person, such a huge impact on the team, team performances, team spirit. And he is playing more in the advanced position that suits him better.

“He is so important to making goals in my team. I am very happy to have him in my squad.”
