Paul Scholes is convinced two Man Utd signings could unlock true potential of Ruben Amorim’s star, he wants both players

Paul Scholes has highlighted the major benefit that two high-profile signings could bring to one Manchester United first-team player under manager Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim will now begin overhauling the Manchester United first-team squad that he inherited from former Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag last November.

Former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October after a disastrous start to the 2024-25 Premier League season at Old Trafford.

Amorim saw minimal reinforcements to his United squad in the January window, with the club signing Ayden Heaven from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

However, the Red Devils have already made a statement of intent in the summer transfer window after United signed forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Amorim is a big fan of the 26-year-old Brazil international and United triggered Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m release clause in his Wolves contract this month.

Paul Scholes makes his feelings clear on the future of Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim

Matheus Cunha will be a welcome addition for Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after the Red Devils’ struggles in the final third in the 2024-25 season.

Joshua Zirkzee disappointed in his debut season at Old Trafford and the Netherlands striker only scored seven times and picked up three assists in 49 matches for United.

Rasmus Hojlund, much like Joshua Zirkzee, struggled in the United attack and the 22-year-old Danish striker netted 10 times and registered four assists in 52 matches.

Speaking on The Overlap, Paul Scholes insisted that he would still keep Rasmus Hojlund and added that United need at least “three top centre-forwards” at the club.

“I’d keep Hojlund,” he said on The Overlap’s ‘fan debate’ show.

“I know he’s not been great, but he’s a 22-year-old kid who has been asked to play centre-forward for Manchester United on his own for the last two years.

“He’s had to play every week. He’s the only one there. He’s a 22-year-old kid.

“With the way they play, Man United should have at least three top centre-forwards, and I’d bring him into that.”

Paul Scholes wants Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres at Old Trafford alongside Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with Inter Milan and the Denmark striker’s future at Old Trafford has been plunged into doubt after his disappointing form last season.

Scholes suggested that Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen should be signed by United to help with Hojlund’s long-term development.

“Get Osimhen and Gyokeres,” he continued.

“Hojlund, he’s struggled like mad of late especially, but he’s not got the chance to sit down and watch.

“If a striker is not doing well, no confidence, the manager sits you down and says, ‘have a look, get a bit of hunger back, a bit of feeling back for the game.’

“We all know he has got centre-forward qualities; we’ve seen it. Not enough, I know that, but if he has got experience around him…

“Say he had Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke around him, it’d bring him on so much. He’s been absolutely flogged to death.

“People forget how old he is. A lot of it is confidence.”

The Red Devils are expected to reinforce Amorim’s attacking options further this summer and United have been linked with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
