Paul Scholes has brutally honest stance over whether Man Utd should sell Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United seems to be in its final chapter with a 2025 exit now looking likely.

The Manchester United fanbase was rocked on Tuesday when Marcus Rashford issued a bombshell revelation.

Rashford stated his desire to depart Old Trafford after more than 20 years at the club and it is a little shocking.

United’s No.10 is a boyhood Red Devil and as such, we expected him to play for the club his entire career.

However, things have taken a turn in his relationship with the fans and after Ruben Amorim left Rashford out of the Manchester derby squad, the writing seemed to be on the wall.

This has subsequently seen several clubs linked, while a loan for Rashford in January is not an impossible move to conceive.

What Paul Scholes said about Marcus Rashford

With the situation the hottest topic around Old Trafford, everyone will have an opinion.

Among those to have a verdict was Paul Scholes, as he talked on The Overlap fan debate alongside Jamie Carragher.

“I hate seeing local lads leave,” the United legend admitted. “Especially when there is still time.

“I remember Danny Welbeck was just cast aside. But the thing with Marcus is, he was so good two years ago. He had that season where he scored 30 goals and just never managed to get to that level again and that’s why he gets the stick.

“He showed his standards and now for the last 18 months or two years, he’s been nowhere near.”

Continuing, Scholes agreed that something is not right behind the scenes for Rashford.

“There’s something not right, whether that is the support system around him, I don’t know. Definitely not right.”

Finally, Scholes brutally told Adam McKola that worrying about Rashford performing elsewhere is pointless, as right now he’s not doing the business for United.

“You can’t be worried about him going to another club and starting to produce, there is every chance that could happen. But he’s not doing it for us now.”

Scholes is spot on Manchester United must be ruthless

To watch Rashford leave United will be a hard pill to swallow for many fans considering his status within the club as an academy graduate and also no doubt a player who was on his way to becoming a club legend.

However, where United must improve is by becoming more ruthless in axing players who are simply not pulling their weight on the pitch.

Rashford is guilty of this, regardless of how good he can be, the fact is we have seen that player for a brief six months in the past three years.

The player himself probably needs a fresh start to revive his career as Rashford seems to have fallen out of love with the game.

Ineos want to restore United to the pinnacle of the sport and if that entails tough decisions like replacing Rashford with a better-suited player, then we are all for it.
