TNT Sports pundit Paul Scholes still thinks one Manchester United legend is underrated for his abilities amid a conversation around France icon Zinedine Zidane.

Paul Scholes is widely regarded as one of the best Premier League midfielders of all time and he spent his entire professional playing career at Manchester United.

The 50-year-old former United and England midfielder lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups.

Scholes became a key midfield influence for Sir Alex Ferguson after the former player emerged as one of United’s breakout ‘Class of ‘92’ stars at Old Trafford.

The former United star crossed paths with Zinedine Zidane during his legendary playing career and has previously raved about the Frenchman’s playing ability.

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes becomes involved in a Roy Keane vs Zinedine Zidane debate

Paul Scholes linked up with co-host Paddy McGuinness for an episode of ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’ podcast, with fellow Nicky Butt absent from the show.

But Tim Sherwood featured on the podcast and he chatted with Manchester United legend Scholes and Paddy McGuinness about Zinedine Zidane and Roy Keane.

Scholes played alongside legendary former United captain Roy Keane in midfield and he feels that the Sky Sports pundit’s actual skills as a player are majorly overlooked.

“Yeah, everything,” he said, before adding: “I think people think about that [his mental toughness], they think, ‘Roy’s hard.’

“But he’s a great player as well. The energy he brought to your team, the leadership he brought, the passing as well.

“People forget [he would] smash a ball into a centre-forward. He was brilliant at that.”

Paul Scholes praises Roy Keane’s overlooked skill amid making a choice between the Man Utd legend and Zinedine Zidane

Roy Keane, much like Scholes, is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history and he had a prolific impact at United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 54-year-old Irishman was a commanding box-to-box midfielder in his prime and Keane had a no-nonsense approach and tough-as-nails reputation as a midfielder.

Tim Sherwood highlighted how Keane could dictate a match by playing disguised passes and was more than simply moving the ball from side to side in midfield.

Responding to Sherwood’s assessment, Keane added: “He doesn’t get enough credit for that.

“Honestly, his passing to a forward player was brilliant. It was brilliant.”

When Paddy McGuinness asked Scholes if he would pick Zidane ahead of Keane, the United legend immediately replied: “No, absolutely not.”

Keane captained United to their famous treble win under Ferguson in 1999 and he lifted seven Premier Leagues, a Champions League and four FA Cups with the club.
