Manchester United are set to visit Kenilworth Road this Sunday for the first time in Premier League history.

Manchester United can make it four consecutive victories in the Premier League this weekend with a win over relegation-battling Luton Town.

But despite Luton’s league position, this fixture won’t be a walk in the park with the Kenilworth Road side proving difficult to beat at home this season.

Although Erik ten Hag should remain fairly confident over his side’s chances given he’s unbeaten in 2024 and that the win Villa Park should give a real belief of picking up points away from home going forward.

Ahead of the game, Paul Merson has shared his verdict on how the game will go for United.

Paul Merson predicts this weekend’s fixture

Writing in his SportsKeeda prediction for this weekend’s round of fixtures, Merson has predicted United vs Luton and he also tipped one United player to be pivotal for Ten Hag.

“I’m not saying this only because he came off the bench to score another match-winning goal, but I think Scott McTominay will start this one for Manchester United. Luton are a set-piece threat and with the presence of McTominay, United can nullify some of that threat.”

Following this, Merson dropped his prediction for the game on Sunday in which he’s gone for a 3-1 win for United. This would be a massive win and could see United move within a win of fifth place if the results prior go the right way.

Merson also singled out Rasmus Hojlund before the game, as he named the 21-year-old as a player he’s a huge fan of.

Manchester United can’t underestimate Luton Town

While yes, on paper, we should absolutely wipe the floor with Luton, that hasn’t been how things have worked this season.

Ten Hag saw first-hand how solid Luton is defensively back in November when the two sides met at Old Trafford in a 1-0 win for United.

Recently, prior to a 3-1 loss against Sheffield United, Luton drew 4-4 with Newcastle and beat Brighton 4-0.

So make no mistake, Sunday will be a hard-fought game and the Red Devils will need to be on top form in order to pick up three points.
