Patrick Dorgu is quickly becoming a jack of all trades and a master of them too!
After shining as a left-winger under Michael Carrick despite arriving as a left-wing-back, then playing as a left-back, Patrick Dorgu has added another arrow to his bow.
The left-wing experiment came out of nowhere, and Carrick deserves credit for making it happen, but the latest evolution is all down to the player.
It arrived in Denmark’s game against Ukraine, which was called off due to a health scare for Christian Eriksen, who is doing fine now.

How would you RATE Patrick Dorgu’s season for Manchester United?📈
Should he be starting as a winger or full-back next season?
Patrick Dorgu adds new position to skill-set
Perhaps it’s not a surprise that Dorgu is enjoying life further forward, considering his idol in football used to be Eden Hazard.
However, his latest goal is something that will make Arjen Robben proud, as it came after he cut inside from the right wing onto his stronger left foot.
He has made somewhat of a habit of scoring thunderstrikes, and Ukraine were the latest on the receiving end of one.
Ukraine made the mistake of not closing him down when he saw space to run into, and he unleashed a rocket from way outside the box.
It was hit with such ferocity that the goalkeeper was beaten at his near post as the ball rifled into the top corner with the speed of light.
All of a sudden, the inside forward role on the right wing doesn’t look like that bad of an idea anymore.
Michael Carrick will use Dorgu flexibly
Dorgu has now flourished in multiple positions, but that doesn’t mean he needs to nail down any one.
How much is Patrick Dorgu worth now in 2026?
Fans have even been comparing him to Gareth Bale!
What he provides Carrick is tactical solutions based on the opposition, according to which he can change Dorgu’s position.
It must be remembered that Dorgu is on an extremely hot streak of wonderstrikes, which is bound to cool down at some point.
When that point arrives, his all-around game further forward will be judged, which still leaves a lot to be desired.
He needs space in front of him to truly operate at his best, and that comes when he plays deeper, aka left-back.
He’s an attacking solution at left-back, and a defensive solution as a winger. Carrick can play him behind Cunha in an offensive lineup against teams who sit back, and use him as a runner off the last man against teams who attack United.
That is the kind of tactical versatility managers would kill for. Dorgu provides it.
