Marc Overmars’ departure from Ajax could have an impact on Erik ten Hag’s plans according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The former Arsenal winger, who was Ajax’s director of football, has left the club with immediate effect.
Manchester United’s hunt to appoint our next permanent manager continues and both ten Hag and Paris Saint Germain manager Mauricio Pochetinno are two names that have been constantly linked with the post.
Ralf Rangnick is the club’s interim boss until the end of the season before the German moves upstairs into a consultancy role which he will fulfil for two years.

Speaking on the latest Vibe with Five podcast, Romano said: “He’s [Pochettino] a serious option for United. There is nothing agreed or done because Manchester United will decide in March/April not in February.
“It will also depend on what happens with PSG in the Champions League.
“But Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are the two big names they [Manchester United] have on the list.
“Also what happened with Overmars could maybe change the future of ten Hag. He [ten Hag] was 100% involved in the project at Ajax, but with Overmars now leaving the club, it could have a big impact on ten Hag’s future.
“Ten Hag and Pochettino are the two big favourites to be the new Manchester United manager in the summer.”

Although Pochettino is set to win his first league title as a manager this season, the pressure for the Argentine to guide PSG to their elusive and much-coveted Champions League glory has only intensified after the former Tottenham boss failed to win two domestic cup competitions.
The Parisian giants face Real Madrid in blockbuster Champions League last-16 tie.
Whereas ten Hag faces little pressure on the European front after guiding the Dutch giants to the last-16 where they will face Benfica.

Ajax sit top of Eredivisie, five points clear of PSV Eindhoven, with 64 goals from 21 games. But ten Hag’s side have only conceded a measly five league goals so far this season.
The pair are leading the race to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s next permanent manager.
But as Romano has raised, the unexpected loss of Overmars could give Erik ten Hag food for thought when thinking about his future.
