Defeat against the Bees would have refueled the sack rumours around United manager Erik ten Hag, but the Dutchman inspired his side to a second-half comeback at Old Trafford.

The visitors took the lead through Ethan Pinnock after Matthijs de Ligt was forced off so his head injury could be treated.

United were trailing at half-time but responded with a second-half performance full of intensity and energy. Alejandro Garnacho scored just two minutes into the half before Rasmus Hojlund completed the comeback just after the hour mark.

Alejandro Garnacho is in great form

Garnacho was the star of the show against Brentford after a superb display off the left, with Marcus Rashford pushed out to the right to accommodate him.

It turned out to be a genius decision from Ten Hag with Garnacho proving to be United’s biggest threat on the day.

Garnacho was compared to Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this season after his fantastic start to the campaign, and the 20-year-old is managing to maintain that form.

Ten Hag was full of praise for Garnacho’s performance, but challenged the Argentina international to do it “every game”. United have a real star on their hands, especially if he can deliver on that challenge.

United have struggled for goals this season, especially in the Premier League, but Garnacho delivered when he was needed most. Stats show he is mixing it with the world’s best this season.

Alejandro Garnacho going stride for stride with Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe is widely regarded as one of – if not the best – footballer in the world at the minute.

The 25-year-old World Cup winner completed a blockbuster move to Real Madrid this season and has hit the ground running.

However, a glance at the statistics show that Garnacho has been even more prolific than Mbappe this season.

Garnacho has scored five goals and made three assists this season despite playing just 683 minutes of football across all competitions.

That is an average of one goal contribution every 85 minutes, making him more productive than Mbappe who has scored eight goals and made one assists in 969 total minutes – an average of one goal contribution every 107 minutes.

Garnacho is laying claim to the left winger spot at United and Ten Hag’s bold decision to keep him there paid off.
