Whispers of Erik ten Hag being replaced as Manchester United boss have continued despite Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England boss.

The Dutchman is still under huge pressure to turn things around at Old Trafford after leading Manchester United to their worst-even Premier League start.

Erik ten Hag has avoided being sacked over the international break and he is set to take charge when United return to action against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Tuchel was among the favourites to replace Ten Hag if he was sacked by Ineos, but the German coach has since accepted the England manager job.

However, there were as many as 10 potential Ten Hag replacements that Ineos could consider, one of which is set to face United this weekend.

Thomas Frank is ‘open’ to leaving Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been linked to the United job after his success with Brentford in the Premier League.

A quick glance at Frank’s managerial history suggests why he is so highly rated at United and considered as a candidate if Ten Hag is sacked.

Thomas Frank has been at Brentford since 2018 but has now revealed in an interview that he would be “open” to other managerial opportunities.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Frank said: “I’ve said many times I’m very happy at Brentford.

“Who knows what will happen in the future. Maybe I stay here for many years. I’m open, maybe something happens.

“It’s very difficult to predict the future.

“Who knows what will happen. How many coaches have been at the same club more than six years? Very few.”

Thomas Frank has Man United audition this weekend

Frank’s comments very much suggest that he would be open to moving to Old Trafford if he got the call from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

His best chance of landing the job is if he can lead Brentford to an impressive victory over United on Saturday afternoon.

Ten Hag’s record against Brentford is a mixed bag, with United undefeated at home against Brentford but having also lost 4-0 to Frank’s side in 2022.

If Frank is able to inflict another defeat for United this weekend, he would pile huge pressure on Ten Hag’s job once again and perhaps put himself in the frame to replace him.
