Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t think twice about talks for only one managerial role, he’d ‘accept any day of the week’

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he would be “happy to enter into a conversation” if one managerial role came about.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been out of management since he was axed from Manchester United in 2021 after a poor start to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

The 51-year-old United legend initially took over at Old Trafford as caretaker manager after Jose Mourinho was sacked by the Premier League club in 2018.

A successful spell during his caretaker managerial spell led to Solskjaer officially succeeding Jose Mourinho as the permanent United manager in 2019.

Solskjaer failed to lift any major silverware as United manager, with the Norwegian falling short of the Europa League trophy to Villarreal in the 2021 final.

Solskjaer on potential managerial return

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has remained active in football outside of the managerial dugout, with the ex-Manchester United star serving as a UEFA technical observer.

The former United manager has been tipped with a sensational return to management and was previously linked with the likes of Leicester City and Besiktas.

Solskjaer reportedly turned down an opportunity to become the Denmark head coach last month, with the United legend keeping his options open.

Speaking to Norwegian radio NRK podcast Bakrommet, the former United forward believes that managing a national team would be the best fit for him going forward.

“It must be something exciting enough, together with the right people,” Solskjaer said.

“But I feel so well now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to travel from Nordmore.

“I think that a national team could suit me, but then it can’t be on the other side of the globe.

“I had two options but it would have taken half a day to travel, and there is a time difference in the picture, so I opted out. Even if I could then take part in the championship.”

Solskjaer’s ‘perfect’ team for management return

Stale Solbakken is currently in charge of the Norway national team and the Norwegian has been tipped to step down from his role after the 2026 World Cup.

Solskjaer insisted that he would be more than “happy” to discuss the Norway head coach role if Stale Solbakken departed the country’s national team.

“I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, when Stale finds out that he doesn’t want it anymore, I’m happy to enter into a conversation,” he added.

“I would say yes any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit and talk about jobs that other people have, but of course I’d say yes.”
