Manchester United legend and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not managed a professional football team since leaving Old Trafford in 2021.

After a couple of seasons at the helm, ultimately a 4-1 loss to Watford was the result which tipped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the edge and made his position as Manchester United manager untenable.

Quite disappointingly, three years on the situation has not changed too much, with Erik ten Hag also one result from another crisis and potentially paying the ultimate price.

Solskjaer has not taken another job since he was fired by Manchester United, despite being linked with several over the course of the past few years.

Recently Solskjaer admitted that he would return to Old Trafford if Ineos offered him the chance this season – amid the uncertainty around Ten Hag.

But now the legendary United No.20 has rejected the chance to work with two current Old Trafford stars.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rejects chance to manage Denmark

After discussing the possibility of taking over United once again, Solskjaer had been tipped to become the manager of Denmark.

This would see him working with United No.9 Rasmus Hojlund and also Christian Eriksen at an international level – but now it has been reported he has rejected this opportunity.

Danish outlet TipsBladet has reported this, with journalist Farzam Abolhosseini writing that Solskjaer has turned down the Danish FA.

The reason for this is interesting, as it is claimed the Norweigan is in talks with what has been described as a ‘major club’.

The name of this mystery club has not been mentioned, although there are several clubs that will likely soon be looking for a new manager – one of which is United.

Solskjaer is seen as one of eight possible Ten Hag replacements. However, despite his fan-favourite status, there are plenty of factors going against Solskjaer.

Latest on Manchester United’s managerial situation

Many United fans will be wondering if the major club referred to is the Red Devils, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe a fan of Solskjaer.

The timing of this is also eerily convenient for Solskaer to be nearing a managerial return, with this week seeing Ten Hag’s future on the line.

Ineos had their meeting on Tuesday, yet there was no official update from the club – with silence speaking volumes as they could quite easily have silenced the rumours.

As things stand, it at least appears like the Dutchman will remain in charge for the Brentford game – although there are no assurances.

With Solskjaer nearing his new career move, perhaps he is being lined up to replace Ten Hag. The way things are going we won’t have to wait all too long to find out.
