Manchester United legend Nicky Butt sparked an eye-opening — and powerful — response from a fellow ‘Class of ‘92’ star over his bold claim about one Red Devils player.
Nicky Butt was one of Manchester United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ players who became a major success story at Old Trafford after a prolific spell at the Red Devils.
The 50-year-old United legend rose through the Premier League club’s youth academy in the 1990s and became part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-team squad.
Butt was part of United’s treble-winning squad in the 1998-99 season under Sir Alex Ferguson and hoovered up the major silverware during his time at Old Trafford.
The ex-United and England midfielder lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League and three FA Cups with the Red Devils before his club exit in 2004.

Nicky Butt tells Man Utd legend Paul Scholes exactly what he thinks of Barcelona player Marcus Rashford
Nicky Butt has now launched a new podcast, ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football,’ with Manchester United legend Paul Scholes alongside comedian Paddy McGuinness.
Scholes delivered a ruthless rant on Marcus Rashford on the most recent episode, with the former United midfielder blasting the Barcelona star’s attitude.
The 50-year-old TNT Sports pundit admitted that it was difficult for him to be happy or Marcus Rashford after the way he carried himself at United before his exit.
Butt also offered his two cents on the podcast and United’s treble-winning legend shared Scholes’ sentiment about how Rashford presents himself.
[…] He needs to be aware, self-aware, he isn’t a baby anymore, he’s 27,” he said.
“He needs to be self-aware of some of the stuff he does and how he projects himself.
“I thought we were going to come onto the show today and go, ‘What about Marcus? What about that goal? I told you this,’ and then he goes and does this and doesn’t turn up, he’s late for a game.”
Nicky Butt’s Marcus Rashford claim sparks a telling response from Man Utd icon Paul Scholes over Barcelona’s summer signing
Marcus Rashford left United in the summer and the 27-year-old completed a loan move to the Camp Nou, with Barcelona covering the Red Devils player’s wages.
Barcelona also have the option to make the England international’s move permanent in 2026 after United included a clause for a £30.3m buy option for Rashford.
Butt suggested that Rashford does have the potential “talent” to exceed all expectations and “could still be one of the best players in the world.”
However, Paul Scholes firmly disagreed with his fellow ‘Class of ‘92’ star and brutally claimed that Rashford “will never have the mentality” to pull off Butt’s claim.
Rashford, who signed for Barcelona in July, has made six appearances for the defending Spanish champions in all competitions and has netted twice for his side.
