Nathan Bishop returns from loan spell to train with Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has returned to the club to train over the international break.

Bishop was pictured training on Tuesday at Carrington alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at League Two side Mansfield Town.

Good to keep him involved

The goalkeeping area at United is crowded to say the last. Bishop probably ranks as fifth choice at present.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Bishop is behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Tom Heaton, and Lee Grant.

Grant is in his final year at the club, and Henderson’s future is unclear as he will want to play rather than sit on the bench.

This season is important for Bishop to go out and get playing time, and stay ahead of fellow youngster Matej Kovar in the pecking order.

So far, so good

Bishop joined United in January 2020 from Southend United, for who he had already played for the first team.

So the challenge of playing first team football for Mansfield Town has been an opportunity for Bishop to relish, rather than a daunting one.

Mansfield have struggled this season and Bishop only recently kept his first clean sheet.

Manager Nigel Clough Clough told the club website: “The goalkeeper [Nathan Bishop] made some good saves, in particular an outstanding save late on.”

A few days back at Manchester United is unlikely to do the young goalkeeper any harm at all, and gives the coaching staff a chance to check up on him first hand.
