Ruben Amorim faced a barrage of questions after Sporting beat Nacional in his latest game in charge.
Manchester United want to hire Ruben Amorim as manager, after deciding to sack Erik ten Hag.
The dilemma for all concerned is the timing. Amorim’s Sporting are mid-season, in the throes of a hectic schedule, which included a match last night.
Sporting beat Nacional 3-1, and Ruben Amorim admitted he is unclear what his future holds.
Amorim admitted the matter must be resolved between the clubs, and it would not be right to say more at this stage, amid negotiations.

Amorim faces questions
After speaking to the Portuguese television cameras, Ruben Amorim’s press conference saw him face a series of questions relating to his situation.
According to newspaper O Jogo, Amorim urged patience, while insisting his future will be his choice.
Amorim said: “You will have to wait a little longer, then I will explain and everything will be very clear. Yes, it is my decision.
“We have to wait. How long? I don’t know. Sunday game? I will be here. For sure? I don’t know.”
At this stage Amorim can’t say he won’t be in charge for Sunday’s match – but if the clubs reach an agreement before then, it could all change.
Amorim challenged over United
Ruben Amorim is in a happy situation at Sporting. Similar to how Erik ten Hag was at Ajax. Now the Dutchman is out of a job, having failed to achieve what he wanted to at Old Trafford.
Amorim was directly asked: “Why trade stability for an unstable club?”, a direct dig yet valid question in relation to Manchester United, a club with chequered managerial history in recent seasons.
The Sporting boss did his best to dodge the question, admitting that Sporting are moving forward in their own quest for stability: “We are taking steps forward in that regard.”
In terms of United, he added: “You will be enlightened when I have something to say. Responding feels like I was putting the cart before the horse. The fans deserve it. I can’t comment on that now.”
It feels like we will have an outcome over Amorim shortly. Ineos have backed themselves into a corner, and it’s one where Sporting hold some of the cards, amid fears an appointment could drag on for weeks.
Yet it is crucial to note, Amorim is not denying anything, and he has made clear it is his ‘decision’, which gives hope the matter will end with his appointment.
