MUTV pundit spotted what Rasmus Hojlund did for both goals, it was critical for Man Utd

Manchester United won a third game in a row with a victory over Romanian side FCSB.

We can just hope Manchester United are turning a corner. A trio of wins against Rangers, Fulham, and FCSB demonstrate Ruben Amorim’s side might just be figuring a few things out.

United beat FCSB 2-0 with goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo, ending the new-look Europa League group stages in third place. It’s nice to see United at the right end of a group table.

The strikes were Dalot and Mainoo’s first goals of the season, just as well considering the continued lack of goals from United’s strikers.

Rasmus Hojlund contributes, without scoring

Rasmus Hojlund is in a difficult spot right now. He has not scored at all since the away win over Plzen in early December.

He is low in confidence and subject of criticism, while teams have even enquired with United over his availabilty.

He remains a starter for United, and MUTV pundit, ex-star Wes Brown, believes his role in Manchester United’s two goals deserves to be noted.

Brown observed that Hojlund’s movement off the ball created space for Dalot and Mainoo to score their goals.

He explained: “Listen, Rasmus didn’t get on the score sheet today, but if you watch the goals, he’s the first one to make the run.

“He opens up the space for the cutbacks and takes a defender with or two out of the game, and he needs to keep doing it, and one will finally land for him.”

Rasmus Hojlund still under pressure

Small contributions like these will lift Rasmus Hojlund’s confidence. But in totality his record for the season is poor.

Hojlund has benefitted from Joshua Zirkzee’s own goal shy tendency, and it is unclear if United will sign another forward before the end of the transfer window.

Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel has been linked over the past few days, while a more serious investment into a centre-forward is expected in the summer, especially if Hojlund does not pick up.
