Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim made changes to the team that lost a week earlier at Brentford.

One of the changes Ruben Amorim had not anticipated making against Brentford was due to Amad being unavailable. He missed the game due to a family bereavement.

He returned to training midweek and went straight back into the Manchester United starting line-up to face Sunderland.

The game was a special one for Amad, facing the club where he spent a season on loan, with the successful stint providing the platform for him to break through at Manchester United.

Amad praised for performance

Amad returned to his position at wing-back and delivered his best performance of the season in the 2-0 win, looking lively and refreshed.

Speaking postgame on MUTV, analyst Ben Thornley praised the way Amad was a constant threat, and a real asset for United’s attack.

Thornley said: “Amad was key for the way that we needed to attack this game, and that’s exactly what happened.

“I thought that Masuaku, he panicked every time that Amad picked up the ball.

“He could have had a goal himself. He didn’t, but he was a constant threat, and it just shows what he can he can bring to this team.

“I love watching him, I really do. And he’s aggressive as well. He doesn’t just do the silky stuff. He’s prepared to put in the hard yards and go in where it hurts. And I love that.”

Amad still searching for first goal contribution

Amad is still searching for his first goal or assist of the 2025/26 campaign so far. It is a wait that won’t go on much longer.

Last season Amad scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists, and he is certainly trying to break his duck this campaign.

Amad has had 11 shots at goal so far, with four on target. He has created eight goalscoring chances, a number bettered only by Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo.
