Michael Knighton has been pushing the anti-Glazer train for the past few months, laying out an intention to try and force the owners out with a ‘hostile takeover’.
Throughout this, he has said he and his ‘small-time billionaires’ would step aside the moment mega-rich Sir Jim Ratcliffe got involved.
Ratcliffe has now stepped up and declared an intention to buy Manchester United from the Glazers.
A spokesperson for his company Ineos told The Times: “We would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership.”

Knighton reacts
Michael Knighton has welcomed the developments, reacting via Twitter to hail the ‘great man’ and laud it as wonderful news.
Last week, Knighton told the Man Utd Religion YouTube channel of Ratcliffe: “He solves all our problems, makes my job redundant.”
Earlier this year he said: “If we could get the likes of Jim Ratcliffe to buy Manchester United that would be a wonderful solution.
“He doesn’t need to take money out of any football club.”
Knighton had pledged to reach out to Ratcliffe, although it’s unclear if they ever held direct talks with the billionaire.
The Glazers have set Manchester United on the road to ruin, and the club rank a rock-bottom 20th in the Premier League table.
