Knighton’s takeover update
Michael Knighton has given an update on his plans to pursue a ‘hostile takeover’ of Manchester United.
He is still keeping the proposed investors relatively secret, but has suggested that they do certainly exist, offering a limited description of the backers.
Speaking to ITV News, Knighton said there are three partners he is speaking to, commenting: “They are small-time billionaires that I have been speaking to for three to four months now.
“If we can smoke the great Sir Jim [Ratcliffe] out to buy Manchester United my consortium will be punching the air because we’ve achieved what we want to do.
“We will make the bid with our own consortium but, I’ll tell you this, we do not have the resources available to do everything that is needed.”
Whether it will be successful is unclear, but it is great to see somebody trying. Pressure needs to build on the owners, who have left the club on a road to ruin.
Anti-Glazer protests
The 1958 Group have announced plans to protest against the Glazers before Manchester United’s game with Liverpool next Monday.
The group is calling on fans to meet more than two hours before kick-off for a protest match, insisting it must be ‘legal’ and ‘peaceful’.
The organisers say: “Let’s show the Glazer family that this time it will not blow over.”
Another loan departure
Manchester United have allowed another young player to leave the club on loan.
United have confirmed goalkeeper Dermot Mee has left to join National League side Altrincham on a deal until January.
Mee played against them in pre-season and started for the under-21s in the league fixture against Crystal Palace last week.
He is the fifth player to leave on loan, following Dean Henderson, Alvaro Fernandez, Alex Telles and Ethan Laird, with more expected to follow.
