Timothy Fosu-Mensah has now pinpointed the exact detail that proves Michael Carrick is upholding the Manchester United ‘DNA’ after the 2025-26 campaign.

Michael Carrick will take charge of the Red Devils for the 2026-27 season as the permanent Manchester United manager after his appointment was made last month.

The 44-year-old United legend permanently succeeded Ruben Amorim on a full-time basis ahead of the final Premier League match of the 2025-26 campaign.

Carrick had chalked up 11 wins from 16 Premier League matches as the Red Devils interim head coach after Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah spotlights Michael Carrick’s continued management of Man Utd youth academy talent

During his interim reign, Michael Carrick was able to revive the fortunes of Kobbie Mainoo, who had emerged through the Manchester United youth academy ranks.

Outside of Kobbie Mainoo’s resurgence, Carrick handed the Premier League debut to Red Devils talents like Tyler Fletcher ahead of his permanent appointment.

Speaking to Sky Sports, ex-United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah feels that Carrick had captured the essence of the club through his handling of academy talent.

“I’m happy they are doing well, I see a couple of young boys also making some minutes and that’s what United stands for,” he said.

“I’m glad it’s going in the right direction and that they’re going to play Champions League football next season – that’s where United belongs.”

Timothy Fosu-Mensah on Michael Carrick’s ascension to the head coach role at Man Utd

Fosu-Mensah shared the pitch with Carrick at Old Trafford ahead of being coached under the United legend when he was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff.

The former Bayer Leverkusen and United player admitted that he is not surprised at how Carrick has become the permanent head coach at the Red Devils.

“I think you can see it since he has been the manager, the points like in the first two games [against] Manchester City and Arsenal,” Fosu-Mensah explained.

“You see the results and I’m glad he’s doing well because I could see how already good he was when he was [on] the staff with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, so it is not surprising for me.”

United finished third in the Premier League table under Carrick and the Red Devils secured their return to the Champions League for the 2026-27 campaign.
