Michael Carrick shares injury updates on Manchester United players

There were multiple question marks around players heading toward the meeting with Leeds at Old Trafford on Monday night; now Carrick has spoken to the media and given an update on all of them.

Lisandro Martinez in contention

Martinez trained with United in Ireland, but Carrick won’t confirm whether he is ready to start against Leeds.

“It’s just that call we make, he won’t be pushed into anything… He’s been back training, back on the grass but we have to make the right decision and make sure that he’s ready.”

Mason Mount back from injury

Having missed months of action, Mason Mount will be back against Leeds, to Carrick’s delight.

“First of all, it’s great to have Mason back, to miss him so quickly after we came in and came together. He’s obviously had nearly two or three weeks of building up and finding, his rhythm, finding his sharpness. It’s great to have him back.”

Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu not ready

Two talents not expected to return against Leeds are Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu.

“The reason he [De Ligt] didn’t come [to Ireland], he’s not quite on the grass. Patrick came with us, and Pat’s at that stage a little bit further on. Matta’s not quite at that stage yet, so it was important for him to continue his rehab [at Carrington].”

Although Dorgu’s return doesn’t seem far away, De Ligt might not play again this season.

How Manchester United could line up against Leeds

With the team news in mind, United’s starting line-up feels quite clear.

Senne Lammens will be in goal, with a back four in front of him consisting of Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, and Luke Shaw.

Midfield will likely be unchanged with Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo behind Bruno Fernandes.

The front three is the one area of debate, but we can imagine Carrick going for Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha as his trio.
