Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has made an eye-opening comparison between Manchester United summer signing Benjamin Sesko and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Benjamin Sesko has struggled to have the same impact as summer signing Bryan Mbeumo since the Manchester United star’s arrival at Old Trafford last summer.

The Slovenian has been Ruben Amorim’s preferred pick to lead the United frontline and has netted twice in only 16 matches across all competitions this season.

Sesko has not found the back of the net since United’s 2-0 Premier League win against Sunderland at Old Trafford ahead of the October international break.

The United star opened his goalscoring account in September, which came in United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League clash away from home.

Benjamin Sesko’s run at United has been disrupted by a knee injury in late 2025, which saw him miss three Premier League matches across November and December.

The Slovenia international finally made his return to Premier League action last month in United’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Micah Richards admitted that United should have beaten Wolves on Tuesday amid Sesko’s availability on the night.

“We can mention the players that were out, and Mbeumo, Amad [Diallo] and [Bruno] Fernandes, but they still had enough quality to win that game, Man United, and Sesko being one of those players,” he said.

“But he looks a little bit lost in confidence. I think the way sometimes Man United play doesn’t really help him in terms of he doesn’t get that many chances.”

Why Micah Richards sees shades of Man City striker Erling Haaland in Man Utd star Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko led the frontline in the Red Devils’ final Premier League match of 2025 and the United striker played the full 90 minutes against Wolves.

Despite United’s 1-1 draw against Wolves, Richards admitted that Sesko’s positioning at the Red Devils is similar to what Erling Haaland does for Manchester City.

“I think at times he is like Haaland, where when he gets the ball in an attacking position,” he added.

“He’s just expected to score, but he’s not getting as many touches as he would like because Man United, at times, especially in the game when I was looking at the highlights of it on the multi-view, they seem to be quite deep.

“So, yeah, I think he will come good.”

United signed Sesko from RB Leipzig last August in a deal worth £74m, with the Red Devils paying an initial fee of £66.3m for the former Newcastle and Arsenal target.
