Maxi Oyedele was one Manchester United player to be sold in the summer, following in the footsteps of several academy talents in recent years.
Over the past two summers, we have seen some Carrington talents sold for peanuts in deals which include sell-on clauses and other stipulations to make it lucrative in the future.
We saw this at Manchester United with Anthony Elanga, Teden Mengi and Zidane Iqbal in the summer of 2023, all sold for cheap – with clauses included.
This strategy continued under Ineos as they let Will Fish, Hannibal Mejbri and Maxi Oyedele go – to name a few – for fees which are far from paying off the quality they have.
Oyedele in particular was sold for cheap, with a fee which is set to be determined by how many games he plays. Now, it seems his decision to exit United has paid off.

Maxi Oyedele handed international call-up for Poland
Pre-season 2024 saw Oyedele impress for Manchester United in midfield, however, it wasn’t enough to secure his future at the club and in the search of senior football, Oyedele went to Legia Warsaw.
This decision was a bizarre one for the 19-year-old, with Polish football a bit of a step backwards from United and English football.
However, the decision has now been justified as Poland have handed the teenager his very first international call-up.
This is undoubtedly a huge success for Oyedele, considering if he had stayed at United he would likely be playing for the U21s right now.
Oyedele has only made two appearances so far as a Legia player – yet the second has clearly impressed Michal Probierz as he has called him up already.
Manchester United sold Legia Warsaw an absolute gem
Oyedele made his first start for Legia over the weekend, and in doing so was ultimately very impressive.
After his display, Polish media were blown away – with iGol claiming his class is surpassing all his peers who play in his position for Poland.
“The package of advantages of the former Manchester United player is huge and it is no wonder that the coach of the Red Devils tested this player before the season.
“It is also clear to some extent that he is not a product of Polish training ideas. He does not have the limitations typical of young players from our country, and his class probably surpasses all his compatriots-peers who play in the same place on the pitch.”
This is high praise, and further pushes the point that Oyedele took the correct decision in leaving United for a club where he is treated as a prize.
