Matthijs de Ligt has wished an emotional farewell to Bayern Munich supporters, before his Manchester United move is formally announced.
Matthijs de Ligt has now been confirmed as a Manchester United player. A fee was agreed with Bayern Munich over the weekend, as part of a double move with right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
De Ligt and Mazraoui have completed their medicals, and will be available to face Fulham this weekend if selected.
The Netherlands international has now confirmed the switch, unofficially, sending his goodbyes to Bayern Munich supporters.

De Ligt message
Matthijs de Ligt penned an emotional message on Instagram to Bayern Munich fans, thanking them for their support during the two years he spent at the club.
He also referenced a petition Bayern fans launched to try and keep him at the club, which ended up amassing more than 70,000 signatures – to no avail.
De Ligt wrote: “Dear Bayern fans, I want to thank each and everyone of you for all your love and support. I have spent two amazing years playing for this beautiful club. It has been a true honour to have played for a club like Bayern Munich. We have achieved unforgettable moments together. Winning the title as well as several amazing CL-nights. These memories will stay with me forever.
“This is why leaving this club feels bittersweet. I will always remember the love and support I have received from the players, the staff members and from the fans. The recent petition signed by so many of you has touched me deeply.
“Thank you all for the two amazing years. I wish FC Bayern good luck winning many more titels, like Bayern has always done. Mia San Mia ❤️”
Manchester United have now formally confirmed Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer.
De Ligt arrives with a point to prove
There are always questions when a players leaves Bayern Munich, but this one has been driven by De Ligt himself.
The Dutchman still has a little point to prove, with club legends Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand asking questions over the deal, along with regular United critic Graeme Souness.
De Ligt is more than capable of demonstrating why he is so highly rated, the basis for Scholes’ criticism has already been proven to be flawed.
Nonetheless, Dutch legends Wesley Sneijder and Marco van Basten have both said they want De Ligt to take the next step in his career and start living up to his potential, and United can provide him with a platform to do so.
