Paul Scholes has raised his concerns over the role that one Manchester United star could play under Erik ten Hag in the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Erik ten Hag’s men signed off their pre-season tour of the United States last Sunday with a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at the Williams–Brice Stadium in South Carolina.
The 54-year-old Manchester United boss has now turned his full attention to the Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.
United reached the Community Shield after their stunning 2-1 FA Cup final win over Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley in May.
Following Saturday’s Community Shield clash, Ten Hag’s side will begin their Premier League campaign on 16th August when they host Fulham at Old Trafford.

Scholes identifies issue at Man Utd
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes admitted that Erik ten Hag has faced a real problem with his midfield selection for matches.
The 49-year-old former United and England midfielder admitted that Casemiro was not that “quick” in the first place and was supported by the players around him.
Casemiro, who impressed in his debut season at Old Trafford, came under criticism over his performances last season after his midfield influence waned for United.
“The middle of the pitch is an area where it is just f*****g empty most of the time,” Scholes said on The Overlap.
“Teams just break through us all day long. You [a fan] mention Casemiro’s legs are going a bit…
“He’s never been that type of player anyway. He was never that quick and he had great players around him.”
Scholes singles out Ten Hag signing
Mason Mount arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea last summer and the former Blues ace saw his debut season at United curtailed due to injuries.
The 25-year-old United star, who was signed from Chelsea for an initial £55m fee, only managed 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 season.
However, Mount has appeared to be back to his best this summer and secured regular playing time under Ten Hag during the pre-season tour.
Scholes has previously spoken about Mount and the United legend insisted that he can only see the former Chelsea star playing in the No 10 role at the club.
However, the former United midfielder does not see him playing in the No 10 when Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes largely dominates that role.
“When Mason Mount came into the team… I think Erik ten Hag is a coach who likes to go for it,” Scholes continued.
“He had to change because it wasn’t quite working, but he tried to play Casemiro with Mount and Bruno Fernandes. Two No 10s… That quickly changed.
“Mount got injured. Are we going to see a fit Mount this year? Even if he is fit, he won’t play instead of Bruno. That’s the only position I see him playing.”
