‘Matter of time’… Former teammate thinks Man United have a youngster with ‘huge potential’

Rasmus Hojlund’s former FC Copenhagen team-mate Muamer Brajanac was never in any doubt about the striker’s ‘huge potential’ as he breaks a Premier League record at Manchester United.

Call it unsustainable, call it a ‘purple patch’. But no one can deny that Rasmus Hojlund has truly arrived in English football.

After waiting 15 appearances for his first ever Premier League goal, the £64 million summer signing now has seven (and two assists) in his last six. That quick-fire brace versus Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, meanwhile, makes the 21-year-old the youngest ever player to score in six straight top-flight games.

And while the speed of Hojlund’s ascent has taken many by surprise, a former team-mate of his in FC Copenhagen’s Under-19 side always suspected that this remarkably all-around centre-forward had everything in his locker to reach the pinnacle of world football.

Rasmus Hojlund can’t stop scoring

“You could see that there was huge potential,” Brajanac, who is still in Denmark with Randers SC, tells Tipsbladet. “Because he had some qualities that could potentially bring him to the best leagues in the world. It was just a matter of time before that potential was released.”

Hojlund is Man United’s top scorer this season with 13 goals in all competitions.

It is not merely the number of goals but the variety of them which has earned the youngster comparisons with the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mark Hughes, Hojlund scoring with close-range tap ins, thumping long rangers, instinctive flicks and cool one-on-ones.

“Top five (in the Premier League) might be too much,” Brajanac adds, Hojlund quickly establishing himself amongst the English elite. “But, right now, he is at least (in the) top eight of the best strikers in the Premier League.

“So a huge present for him, that he has redeemed his potential.”

Hojlund is looking to score in a seventh consecutive Premier League game when Manchester United host Fulham on Saturday.
