Matheus Cunha has been open about living the dream as a Manchester United player, but his dream has been enhanced by a teammate who is ‘amazing’ to play with.

Man Utd fans have quickly taken to Matheus Cunha because he has repeatedly spoken about what a privilege it is to play for the club.

Cunha’s qualities have seen him earn some lofty comparisons to Eric Cantona, and despite his raw stats not jumping out, those who see the games know how important he is to the team.

A team is more than just one player, however, and Cunha has singled out a teammate whom he is in awe of.

Matheus Cunha raves about Bryan Mbeumo’s quality

The pairing of Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo formed in the summer window was widely expected to lead Man Utd’s charge up the table.

For once, the expectations didn’t fall far away from reality, since both Premier League-proven players have picked up from where they left off last season.

Cunha is a maverick. Cunha does things that are hard to find in some players because he plays with the ball, but he has an aura that can do something to opponent’s heads and that is really important.

While Cunha is shining in his general game, Mbeumo’s impact is more direct with goals and assists.

Speaking to Brazilian media ahead of their game against Tunisia, Cunha raved about Mbeumo, saying that it’s ‘amazing’ to play with him.

He said: “Amazing, what a player. It’s amazing to be there and to play with big players like Bryan, and to be coached by a winner is always something I feel privileged.”

Cunha praised Amorim as well, calling him a “winner”, and the gratefulness in his voice when talking about Man Utd always shines through.

Cunha is about to become even more important

So far, Mbeumo has scored the goals while Cunha has thrilled the fans, but with AFCON coming up, the Brazilian is about to become even more important.

As both Amad and Mbeumo will leave to play for their countries, Cunha will have to bring back the maverick on display at Wolves last season.

He is clearly capable of taking the games by the scruff of their neck and dragging his team past the finishing line, but he’s been a consummate team player so far.

When Mbeumo and Amad leave, the hope is that he rediscovers the selfish streak he had at Wolves, because United will need that maverick version.
