Matheus Cunha has reflected on his first week at Manchester United after beginning pre-season preparations at Carrington.

Matheus Cunha joined from Wolves at the beginning of the transfer window, but Manchester United fans haven’t had a lot to shout since then.

United are working on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and Diego Leon has arrived from Cerro Porteno.

There is excitement about the first signing brewing, as Cunha had an incredible impact at Wolves. The Brazilian scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, which Ruben Amorim will hope he can replicate at Old Trafford.

Cunha impressed on the first day of pre-season on July 7, so he will be expected to feature heavily in the pre-season friendly matches this summer.

United’s first pre-season clash takes place against Leeds in Stockholm next week. It will be a chance for fans to see Cunha in a United jersey for the first time.

Matheus Cunha grateful for ‘warm welcome’ at Man Utd

Cunha has been reflecting on his first week of training at United.

Over the coming weeks, Cunha will get to know his United teammates better and hopefully strike a strong chemistry with them on the pitch.

The 26-year-old, who took the no.10 shirt from Marcus Rashford, explains that he received a ‘warm welcome’ at Carrington.

“We’re joking when I go to the locker room, we’re talking about some games, especially with Maz [Noussair Mazraoui],” Cunha told the official Manchester United website. “I think it’s always with him, my [individual] battle.

“But, of course, we’re talking about the games, we’re talking about the seasons and then, yeah, I think everyone was very lovely with me, [it was a] very warm welcome.”

United will step up their training programme next week ahead of the game against Leeds before travelling to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series pre-season tournament.

Cunha inspired by previous Man Utd forwards

After wearing the no.10 shirt at Wolves, Cunha will do the same at United.

The Brazil international takes great pride in his squad number and is looking to replicate some of United’s most celebrated forwards in recent years.

Cunha has named several United forwards that inspired him during his career, including Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He added: “Yeah, wow. It’s something that you always dream about.

“I can mention many players that use this shirt. It’s so easy for me.

“Of course, I think the one that I always think about when I see this number in this shirt for me was Wayne Rooney. He was someone that I grew up to watch him play and I have [watched] many games now.

“Then I swapped shirts with Marcus [Rashford, after a game] also, I have his shirt in my home. But, of course, we know many players used this shirt – [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic.

“It’s the dream not only to use the shirt, but with all the history they have around the number, it’s something beautiful that I have the privilege to do it.”
